Each year many of us go through an annual medical
checkup. I always find it reassuring
when told my health is good and I am in respectable shape for my age. But do we allow ourselves a personal
evaluation of the other aspects in life such as career, finances,
relationships, values and growth?
I bring this up because we get so wrapped up in
our everyday life that we forget to stop and look at the big picture of what we
are doing. I am talking about how our
actions affect the lives of others. So
periodically you may want to stop and exam your personal life. Are you on the right path? Are you in control of your life or sliding by
letting the days melt into each other.
Here are a few areas in life that I believe
should be a focus to help bring more value to each day of life.
Do you know your talents and are you using
them? You may have a hidden
treasure. Finding these personal gems
will allow you to grow. It may be as
simple as sharing something you enjoy. Look for comments or compliments that others have shared and see if it
is something you may want to cultivate.
Are you working towards better
relationships? Relationships are
paramount to achieving results and a better existence whether you are looking
at family or business. See where you can develop better and more meaningful
associations and you may be surprise at the results from your efforts.
Physical and mental health is a good place to
start your checkup. Having good health
leads to a good outlook and better attitude towards life. Take care of yourself.
Do you enjoy what you are doing for a living and
if not why? It doesn’t mean you must
change positions or start over. Sometimes it as easy as an attitude adjustment and looking at what you
are doing in a new way. What can you do
to lead the way to more success and happiness in your occupation?
Do you care for the people around you? Leaders do and they develop a culture of
trust and accountability. Take a moment
and look at the impressions you are sending out with your actions. You are making an impression every day to the
people close to you as well as those who are watching from a distance.
Is it time to do a financial checkup? It may result in a change in spending
habits. Look for patterns that need to
be addressed to provide for a more secure future.
Looking within is even more important. How we assess our spiritual life, community
service and values give more meaning and purpose to life. Take time to discover more about these areas
in yourself and you will cultivate more wisdom and deeper connections.
Finally, I cannot end these thoughts without
saying what may be the most important point. To enjoy all that life offers you need to have time to play. This brings more creativity, and energy into
your existence. Seek out fun, laughter
and joy. Relish the little things that
are offered to you each day. Embrace
each new day making it as special and as full of meaning as possible.

as if it were your last; love each day as if you will live forever.”― Matshona Dhliwayo
