Change Your Path, Change Your Life

We are fortunate to be able to control much of our destiny when it comes to changing direction. We can improve our thoughts, habits, health, goals and many other aspects of life. But do we?  Do we make the effort and hold our self accountable to new ideas, and changes? Here are my top ten thoughts that can alter your path for the future.

10) Positive Self-talk
Having a positive conversation with yourself is healthy and a great habit to begin in the new year.  After all, no one can encourage you better than yourself.  To change your future, you must be optimistic about who you are and what you are doing.  Work on building confidence with self-talk. Visualize you are in the football locker room at halftime getting the “you can do this” speech.  It will help you more than you can imagine.

9) Embrace Acceptance
Learn to accept who you are and others.  We focus much of our time on our imperfections.  Often, we see only the things we feel need changed. We also do this with the people around us by seeing faults rather than their strengths.  Start a habit looking for your assets.  See what makes you unique and find your inner attractiveness.  Hold judgement on others and see assets rather than liabilities.

8) Forget The Past
How much of the past are you carrying with you each day?  Perhaps it’s an old argument, family disagreement or an episode where you were wronged or did wrong.  Learn to forgive.  This gives you the opportunity to drop the baggage and bring more positive energy into your life.  Holding a grudge or not forgiving yourself and making amends is a negative cloud following you around.  Clear up the past, if only in your head and heart, then move on.

7) Evaluate Your Priorities
In a fast pace world with multiple responsibilities it’s important to know what you must do, what you should do and what can wait.  Learn to recognize the difference.

6) Get Organized
Organization and time management has been buzz words for many years. You may feel you have learned these techniques, but I would suggest you look at them again.  Making to-do list and scheduling your calendar are incredible ways to stay on track with goals and time.  Once the habit is in place, you may see more accomplishments and still have time for fun and relaxation.

5) Invest in You
Taking care of your health is by far the best investment you can do to improve life and be your best.  Look at what you are putting into your body and think nutrition.  Move your body.  Walk, get outdoors and find ways to enjoy exercise.  Get a physical and see a dentist.  Learn what is best for your personal well-being and change habits for better health.

4) Time To Rest
Are you doing too much?  Do you give yourself down-time to regroup and rest? Find time to make sleep a priority.  Make your bed a sanctuary for rest.  Give yourself permission for a nap or just time to relax and dream.  Many studies have shown that getting enough rest benefits you mentally and physically.

3) Eliminate The Noise
Examine the time you spend watching television, social media, internet sites, and other time-consuming endeavors.  Are they eating away moments of your day that could be spend on more valuable efforts?  Watch for signs you are getting drawn in to time wasting activities.

2) Analyze Your Spending
Are you being financially responsible?  Are you investing in your growth or fads? Identifying your financial habits, strengths and weaknesses, will provide better control for your future.  Discover how you can change old patterns to lead your way to freedom.

1) Find Gratitude
Learn to appreciate the good in your life.  Give thanks for family, friends, supporters, mentors, pets and other living creatures in the world.  Finding gratitude in others can help you become a better cherished, respected partner; parent, team player and leader within your world.

As you begin 2019, I would challenge you to examine what you want to accomplish this year. Make a note of the items to focus on and begin changing your path for the future.

“Change your life today. Don't gamble on the future, act now, without delay.”
